Micro Loan Initiative
The foundation’s Micro Loan Initiative worked with local school and community officials to revitalize the community bakery. The bakery is located next to the primary school and 50% of the net income go towards purchasing necessary supplies for the school. The $1000 loan given to the bakery purchased the necessary supplies and tools needed to produce bread, ensured the necessary structural renovations, publicize the re-opening through a community fundraising event, and give the bakery enough capital for 3 months. The foundation helped the community develop a board of directors for the bakery to monitor the progress, conduct the necessary expenditure analysis and manage the daily activities of the bakery. In addition, the bakery provides on the job training for community members on a rotational basis for the production and selling of bread and pastries. The board estimates that they will have re-paid the initial loan within 3 months.
